The Full Story
About Me
I am a native Washingtonian and have spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest. I find tranquility in hiking in our mountains and fly-fishing in our waters. I am a musician and am usually involved in a variety of musical projects, from bluegrass to swing band. I am curious about people and what makes them tick. I write a column in our local newspaper, serve on the board of an area non-profit, and sometimes I cook dinner for the family. I am married to a woman who holds my heart well, and I enjoy backyard bonfires with our young adult kids. I am an ordained minister and am interested in the ways people experience the spiritual side of life in whatever form they may. I consider it an honor and a privilege when people invite me into their lives in order to open up pathways to insight and growth. I do this work because I care about people and communities, and because I want to leave a healthier world for my time spent here.
My Approach
I believe that clarity, strength, and healing are often found in the conversations and relationships that develop within the therapeutic space. Searching for insight with curiosity and a non-judgmental attitude opens up previously unnoticed thoughts, ideas, and patterns we have adopted, which then leads to experimentation in new ways of thinking and living. My work is based in the Relational Psychodynamic model, and is informed by other modalities and techniques as needed. I partner with clients to explore their worlds and develop plans that best suit their particular issues. As clients lead and I listen, as I stay inquisitive and tease out client’s beliefs and thought patterns – it is in that relational space that strength and healing happens.
